Ice Palace built on Detroit Lakes City Beach – Polar Fest 2022

A large group of volunteers dedicated long hours to build the largest Ice Palace to date in Detroit Lakes.  The massive footprint was 32’ tall x 95’ wide x 24’ deep.  The blocks measured 20 inch thick and weighed over 600 pounds each.   MN Sn’Ice Palace committee had nearly 2,000 ice cakes cut out of the frozen Detroit Lakes to build the palace and ice maze.

The Ice Palace relates to The Legend of King Isbit and features a throne, ice sculptures and the surrounding area is to relate to King Isbit playground.  The Ice Palace was presented opening night with colorful lights and fireworks being displayed behind the ice Palace on Detroit Lakes.
