Westminster Dog Show – “King” Fox Terrier wins Best in Show

The Fox Terrier named “King” won the Best in Show award Monday evening at Madison Square Garden in New York with Gabriel Rangel handler. This was the 143rdWestminster Kennel Club Dog Show of two full days of competition and the finale event Tuesday evening with Best in Show judge Peter Green.

Purebred dogs compete in one of seven groups based on the breed; sporting, working, hound, toy, non-sporting, working, herding and terrier.  The Terrier group has taken the prestigious award 15times since 1907.  As a group, the Terrier group has held the title 47 times Best in Show winner; “King Arthur Van Foliny Home” – Fox Terrier.  Reserve Best in Show was “Oeste’s in The Name Of Love” – Havanese.

The six dogs that competed were Burns (Dachshund-longhaired), Bean (Sussex spaniel), Baby Lars (Bouvier des Flandres), Wilma (boxer) and King (wire fox terrier), Bono (Havanese).  Normally there are seven dogs competing for the prestigious crown but Schipperke Colton was ineligible due to a business ownership conflict with the Best in Show judge Peter Green according to the official rules of the Westminster.
